On Friday night, 24th of July Jtereo hosted Matariki in the sports hub at
Westland High. Each of us got a stall to run, mine was glow sticks and bubbles.
We got there early to organize, and display things on our stalls and set up other
equipment. As it got later people started arriving, everyone was rushing to the food
stalls and watching the kapa haka performances. As I sat there watching people
walking past glancing at my stall I thought it would be a slow night. Luckily there
was someone selling food right beside me,so I decided to buy something to pass
the time. It started getting darker and MUCH MUCH COLDER! As I was sitting
there eating my pastry a customer approached my stall, as I was struggling to
swallow my mouthful I saw him looking at the glow stick headband I was wearing
then he asked me how much they were; I replied “$2” He said he would like one
in blue, so, as I was making it the line behind my stall started to build up! By now
it was really dark outside. After about ten customers my hands started getting
numb from the cold and I struggled to make them as fast and as efficiently. An
hour later I decided to go and get some hot doughnuts to warm up my hands,
also I was very hungry. The customers piled up all night until it was finally time
to start slowly packing up. I was given some balloons to hand out for free
because they weren't all sold yet. It took an hour or so to pack up. When me, my
mum and sister were about to leave we were given a bag of hot dogs from
Whaea C! It was a long but successful night.
